The Suzuki V-Strom 1050 (DL1050) is a large adventure-tourer launched in 2020 as the successor to the DL1000. At its heart sits a 1037 cc 90° V-twin with TL1000 DNA, retuned for sharper injection and a flatter torque curve. Power output is around 107 hp, kerb weight is roughly 247 kg, and the bike comes with full LED lighting, a TFT display, cruise control and, on XT trims, a comprehensive electronics package fed by a six-axis IMU. The styling tips its hat to the old 1980s DR-Big.
The V-Strom 1050 targets riders who want to cover long distances comfortably with luggage and a passenger, biased toward tarmac and light gravel rather than serious off-road work. It is well suited to long-distance touring, daily commuting and group weekend trips. Direct rivals are the Honda Africa Twin 1100, BMW R 1250 GS, Yamaha Tracer 9 GT and Triumph Tiger 1200 GT; the Suzuki stands out with its smooth V-twin character, lower entry price and recognisable retro styling.
Check final drive and chain stretch; on a 247 kg bike that's often loaded with a pillion and luggage, the sprocket set wears faster than on lighter V-Stroms.
On bikes that have seen gravel, especially the XT with its 19/17 spoked wheels, inspect rim edges for dents and ask whether the spokes have been re-tensioned.
Ask whether the steering head bearings and rubbers have been checked; the tall bars and long wheelbase load the bearings under sustained two-up touring.
Test every piece of electronics (riding modes, traction control, cruise, IMU-dependent features) on the test ride; sensor faults can knock out multiple systems at once.
Inspect the bash plate and fairings for hairline cracks; many V-Strom 1050s are ridden heavily loaded and carry hidden drop damage.
