1985–1986 GV1200GL Madura
GenerationThe GV1200GL Madura is the 1165cc shaft-drive V4 from the short 1985–1986 model run. GV1200GL and Madura identification is essential: this generation must not be linked to the smaller GV700, the GV1400 Cavalcade or later Intruders.
About the Suzuki GV 1200
The Suzuki GV1200GL Madura is a short-lived American muscle cruiser from 1985–1986, not a later Intruder. It combines a liquid-cooled 1165cc V4 with shaft drive, six speeds and a low cruiser stance. The engine is a transversely mounted 82-degree V4; always confirm that an advert actually identifies a GV1200GL/Madura rather than a GV700, GV1400 Cavalcade or VS/VL Intruder.

What to check before buying
- Check the radiator, hoses, water pump and coolant for leaks and deferred maintenance; this is a liquid-cooled V4.
- Inspect all four carburettors, fuel tap and tank for contamination or poor idle after storage.
- Listen for irregularities from the shaft drive and check final-drive oil, seals and free play.
- Test the hydraulic clutch and all brakes, inspecting hoses, master cylinders and calipers for leaks or seizure.
