The Piaggio MP3 250 was introduced in 2006 as the first of the MP3 range, a three-wheeled maxi-scooter with a 244 cc single-cylinder producing 17 kW (23 hp) through a CVT transmission. The defining feature is the patented two-wheel front axle with independent MacPherson strut suspension that leans in corners but locks upright at standstill. In the Netherlands it can in many cases be ridden with a standard car licence (category B).
The MP3 250 targets urban riders who want three-wheel stability without a motorcycle licence.
