Years
1979 - 1983
The Boxer 2 received 17-inch wheels, a dual seat and revised body details. BTM denotes the fixed transmission and BTV the variator version; these are transmission choices within the same Boxer 2 generation, not different engine families.
Years
1970 - 1979
The first Boxer has tall 18-inch wheels, a single-seat layout and the tank beneath the saddle. For a restoration, verify the correct frame, seat and tank arrangement; those details distinguish it from the Boxer 2.
The Piaggio Boxer is a classic Italian moped introduced by Piaggio in 1970. It uses an air-cooled 49.77 cc single-cylinder two-stroke, drum brakes and the straightforward moped layout related to the Ciao and Si family. The first series ran to 1979 and is identified by tall 18-inch wheels, a single-seat layout and the tank beneath the saddle. From 1979, the Boxer 2 introduced a dual seat, 17-inch wheels and revised body details.
A Boxer is bought primarily for its light, simple character and historical style. For regular use, frame, brake, tyre and registration condition matter more than accessories. Do not buy on the Boxer name alone: verify the series, transmission (fixed or variator) and the presence of original parts. A complete, original moped with a sound tank, correct wiring and working pedal/drive system is far more valuable than a project with an unknown cylinder kit or missing panels.
