Years
2015 - 2016
The first 1290 Super Adventure S combines the 1301cc LC8 with semi-active WP suspension and long-distance touring comfort.
The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is KTM's flagship adventure-touring model, centred around the 1,301 cc LC8 V-twin producing 118 kW (160 hp). Its defining feature is the semi-active WP APEX Pro suspension that continuously adjusts damping in real time. Cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, and a 9-axis IMU round out the electronics package. Production started in 2017, with major updates in 2021 and 2023.
The S is aimed at experienced riders who cover long tarmac distances rather than serious off-road terrain. The electrically adjustable windscreen, heated seats, and joystick-operated TFT display make it a premium GT machine in adventure clothing. It competes directly with the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure and Ducati Multistrada V4 S. Riders who prioritise on-road performance over ground clearance will prefer the S over the R variant.
