About the Ktm 1190 Adventure
The KTM 1190 Adventure is the adventure-tourer KTM rolled out in 2013 as successor to the 990 Adventure. The 1195 cc 75-degree V-twin LC8 engine derives from the RC8 sport bike and delivers around 150 hp at 9,500 rpm. Standard kit includes ride-by-wire, four ride modes, MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control) and cornering ABS, KTM was the first manufacturer to deploy this Bosch system on a production bike. Alongside the standard version there was a 1190 Adventure R with spoked wheels, longer travel and more off-road biased ergonomics. In 2017 it was replaced by the 1290 Super Adventure.
The target rider is the experienced owner who wants twin-cylinder performance combined with serious off-road capability. At around 220 kg wet and a 860 mm seat (R version 890 mm) it is large but balanced. The riding position is upright, the bars wide and the tank substantial, good for 400+ km between fills. Direct rivals are the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure (LC), Ducati Multistrada 1200 and Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200.

What to check before buying
- Inspect the water pump for moisture below the engine; LC8 V-twins are prone to pump bearing wear.
- Check oil consumption between service intervals; the LC8 engine is known to use more oil under hard use.
- Assess the electronic modes across all settings; earlier model years suffer faults in the WP semi-active suspension.
- Confirm timely valve clearance checks every 30,000 km; missed checks cause costly top-end work.
- Verify recall actions (fuel hose, clutch nut) have been completed.
