About the Kawasaki Z 650
The Kawasaki Z650 is a lightweight naked bike that replaced the ER-6N in 2017. At its core sits the same 649cc parallel-twin found in the Versys and Ninja 650, tuned here for 49 kW (67 hp) and 64 Nm of torque. A new steel trellis frame trimmed 17 kg from the predecessor, and the Sugomi styling places the Z650 firmly in the Z family. From the 2020 model year onwards a TFT dashboard with Rideology smartphone link was added; the 2024 update brought new Z H2-style front bodywork.
The Z650 targets new riders, A2-licence holders and commuters looking for an affordable middleweight without off-road ambition. At 187 kg ready-to-ride and 790 mm seat height it is one of the most approachable 650s on the market. The 15-litre tank gives around 300 km range. Direct rivals include the Yamaha MT-07, Suzuki SV650, Honda CB650R and Triumph Trident 660. A 35 kW A2-licence variant has been available throughout. The Z650 lacks wind protection but the chassis is more compliant than the sharper MT-07.
