Jawa is a Czech motorcycle brand founded in 1929 in Prague. The name derives from founder František Janeček and the acquired brand Wanderer. Jawa grew into one of the most recognisable Eastern European marques, beloved for reliable two-stroke and light four-stroke motorcycles. Well-known models include the Jawa 250, 350, and the classic Pionýr. In recent years, Jawa, now produced in India under licence, has launched modern retro-styled motorcycles such as the Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak.
In the Dutch used-motorcycle market, Jawas are predominantly found as classics from the 1960s to 1980s, popular with collectors and riders with a nostalgic streak. The newer Indian-made models have limited European presence but do appear on the used market. Parts for classic models are available through specialist clubs and importers. Jawa sits as an affordable classic alongside brands like Simson and MZ.
