About the Hyosung Comet 650
The Hyosung Comet 650 is a Korean naked bike that appeared in 2002 and was produced until around 2012. At its core is a 647cc V-twin inspired by Suzuki's engine architecture. The motor delivers pleasant, linear torque with no harsh power spikes, making for agreeable road manners. In GT650R guise the engine was enclosed in a full fairing for a more sporting character.
The Comet 650 targets beginners and budget-conscious riders who want a big twin without the premium price tag of a Japanese rival. Ergonomics are comfortable and neutral, well suited to daily commuting and shorter touring rides. Competitors include the Suzuki SV650 and Kawasaki ER-6n. The main advantage is a low used-market price; the drawback is relatively limited dealer support in Europe.

What to check before buying
- Check the carburettors for correct synchronisation and blockages; early models are prone to cold-start issues from poorly adjusted carbs.
- Inspect the wiring loom for moisture damage and corrosion; Hyosung models of this era are known for inconsistent electrical quality.
- Check the cam chain tensioner and timing chain for condition and replacement history; if skipped, engine damage is costly.
- Examine the exhaust for rust, especially at the joints; stainless steel was not used throughout.
- Check oil pressure and verify regular oil change intervals; a worn oil pump is a known weakness at higher mileage.
