About the Honda VTX 1800
The Honda VTX1800 is an American-style V-twin cruiser produced from 2002 to 2008 and one of the largest engines Honda has ever put in a production motorcycle. The 1795 cc V-twin engine with a 52-degree cylinder angle delivers abundant low-rpm torque that propels the VTX1800 impressively despite its 334 kg weight. The design is retro-American: wide front tyres (21 inch), a low seat, chrome accents, and an imposing engine as the visual centrepiece. Three variants exist: the C (custom/bobber), the R (roadster, more minimalist), and the T (touring, with fenders and windscreen).
The VTX1800 appeals to riders who want to make an impression and enjoy relaxed cruising. The low seat height of approximately 700 mm makes it accessible for average-height riders. Used examples are relatively affordable for a large V-twin, but the significant weight and wide turning circle demand confident riding experience. Competitors include the Yamaha XV1900 Midnight Star, Kawasaki VN1700, and Suzuki Boulevard M109R. Honda discontinued the VTX line in 2008 in favour of the DN-01 and VT1300 series.

What to check before buying
- Check the shaft drive for final drive oil leaks; low-mileage examples often have never had the oil changed.
- Check the chrome components for rust and peeling; original chrome parts are expensive to restore or replace.
- Check the cooling system for leaks; the liquid-cooled engine block has hoses that harden with age.
- Check the V-twin for correct valve clearances; the large displacement requires precise adjustment for smooth running.
- Check the brakes for wear and fluid level; the significant mass demands well-maintained braking.
