The Tourer is the factory-equipped travel version with a screen, hard panniers and a more passenger-friendly seat. Its T code or full A.C.E. Tourer designation prevents confusion with accessorised C2 models.
Years
1998 - 2002
The Aero uses deeper fenders, fuller bodywork and shaft drive for a heavyweight American touring-cruiser appearance. C3 and Aero are distinctive terms within the overlapping VT1100 family.
Years
1995 - 1999
The American Classic Edition has longer classic-style fenders and different ignition tuning for a more pronounced V-twin pulse. Look for C2 or A.C.E.; year alone is insufficient because other Shadows overlap.
Years
1987 - 2007
The base VT1100C evolved into the Spirit, pairing the 1,099cc V-twin with a relatively simple cruiser layout. Because several VT1100 versions were sold concurrently, VT1100C and Spirit are essential identifiers.
The Honda VT1100 Shadow is a classic V-twin custom motorcycle introduced by Honda in 1985 as an answer to demand for a reliable yet affordable cruiser. The 1099cc V-twin engine with hydraulic valve adjustment focuses on low-rev torque, providing a relaxed riding feel with minimal maintenance requirements. Over the years several variants appeared: the Shadow Spirit, Shadow ACE and Shadow Sabre, each with subtly different styling and geometry.
The VT1100 targets riders who enjoy relaxed cruising on long straight roads without the high costs associated with a Harley-Davidson. It is particularly well suited to daily commuting and fine-weather touring rides. Thanks to proven engineering and a large second-hand parts supply, spares are abundantly available. Second-hand examples are attractively priced and rewarding for light custom modifications.
