About the Honda CBR 250 R
The Honda CBR250R is an entry-level sports motorcycle built around a 249 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine. The modern MC41 generation arrived in 2011 with a complete redesign, PGM-FI fuel injection, and optional ABS. Power output is around 26 hp with a kerb weight of just 161 kg, making it one of the lightest bikes in its class. Earlier generations (MC17/MC19, 1986–1990) used a carburetted engine with a wider steering angle.
The CBR250R targets A2-licence holders and riders stepping up from a 125. The fairing provides motorway wind protection, and the ergonomics are sporting without being aggressive. It rides smoothly in town and handles well on longer suburban routes. Key rivals are the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and Yamaha YZF-R25. Honda's reliability reputation and low running costs make it a popular first sports bike.

What to check before buying
- Check valve clearances carefully; the CBR250R requires adjustment every 16,000 km and valve issues are common on neglected examples.
- Inspect the cooling system for small leaks at hose connections; the single-cylinder runs warm in slow city traffic.
- Check the ABS module (if fitted) for warning lights; sensor rings corrode on older bikes.
- Look for learner-rider wear: handlebar ends, footpegs, fairings, and crash bungs are tell-tale signs.
