Generations and editions
Features and handling differ by generation. Use this overview to find the right version.
Years
2024 - present
2024+ · vernieuwde Milwaukee-Eight 117
GenerationThe regular Road Glide was renewed for 2024 and now uses the 1923cc Milwaukee-Eight 117 with new infotainment and revised fairing. This is not CVO-only: 2024-on with 1923cc/117 is sufficient source evidence.
Years
2023 - present
2023+ · CVO Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121
EditionThe CVO Road Glide from 2023 uses the 1977cc Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121 with variable valve timing. Combining 1977cc with CVO/121/VVT prevents incorrectly entered capacity in an advert from falsely activating this flagship version.
Years
2018 - 2022
2018–2022 · CVO Milwaukee-Eight 117
EditionRoad Glide CVO versions with the 1923cc Milwaukee-Eight 117 are a separate flagship technically and in equipment. This row requires CVO, 117 or 1923cc; a regular Road Glide from the same years otherwise deliberately remains unassigned.
Years
2017 - 2023
2017–2023 · Milwaukee-Eight 114 / Special
EditionThe 1868cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 belongs to Road Glide Special and other higher-output versions. It is assigned only with 1868cc, 114, FLTRX or ‘Road Glide Special’, so the 107 is not given inflated specifications.
Years
2017 - 2023
2017–2023 · Milwaukee-Eight 107
GenerationThe modern Road Glide gained a new Touring chassis and the 1745cc Milwaukee-Eight 107. Because 114 and CVO versions coexist, this row matches only 1745cc/107, not merely a year or ‘Road Glide’ title.
Years
2010 - 2016
2010–2016 · Twin Cam 103
GenerationThe 1690cc Twin Cam 103 represents the final air-cooled Road Glide period before the Milwaukee-Eight. Not every market year offered the same Road Glide version, but 1690cc/103 is a more reliable identifier than a broad title matcher.
Years
2007 - 2009
2007–2009 · Twin Cam 96
GenerationThe 1584cc Twin Cam 96 brought injection and a six-speed gearbox to the Road Glide. This short transition generation is identified by 1584cc/96 and should not be merged with the later 1690cc 103.
Years
1998 - 2006
1998–2006 · Twin Cam 88
GenerationThe first Road Glide combines the fixed sharknose fairing with the 1450cc Twin Cam 88. Source data contains occasional incorrect 1584cc entries in these years, so the historical 1450cc generation deliberately remains separate.
About the Harley Davidson Road Glide
The Harley-Davidson Road Glide (FLTR/FLTRX) is set apart from other Touring models by its frame-mounted shark-nose fairing with dual headlights, the fairing does not turn with the bars. Depending on year it ran the Twin Cam 96/103/110, the Milwaukee-Eight 107/114 or, from 2024, the new Milwaukee-Eight 117. Introduced in 1998 as the FLTR, it received its current shark-nose front in 2015 and is favoured by long-distance riders for its wind protection and high-speed stability.
Its audience is the long-haul rider who wants frame-mounted fairing stability over the batwing's lighter feel at low speeds. A seat height around 720 mm, low centre of gravity and integrated infotainment make it well suited to solo and two-up touring. Direct competitors are the Indian Challenger, BMW K 1600 B and Harley's own Street Glide.

What to check before buying
- Cam chain tensioner on Twin Cam 96/103 (2007-2016) is a known wear point; confirm whether the hydraulic upgrade has been done.
- Oil weeping at cylinder base gaskets occurs on Milwaukee-Eight 107/114; inspect the lower engine cases.
- Rear tyre wears faster than on a standard cruiser due to weight and torque; ask for tyre history.
- Fork seals can leak on older models; check fork stanchions for oil residue.
- Audio and infotainment on pre-Boom Box bikes feel dated; Bluetooth and navigation functionality may be limited.
