2017–2020 SuperSport S
EditionThe first-series SuperSport S uses the same 937cc/81kW engine as the standard bike, but is identified by Öhlins suspension, a taller screen and its finish. It is an equipment trim, not a separate engine generation.
Years
2017 - 2020
2017–2020 SuperSport
GenerationThe original SuperSport combines the 937cc Testastretta L-twin with half-fairing styling and a usable sport-touring riding position. The standard model uses Sachs suspension; this row requires no trim name so ordinary adverts from these years are not confused with the S.
About the Ducati Supersport
The Ducati Supersport (also known as the Supersport 950 from 2021) is a sport-tourer produced from 2017. The engine is a 937 cc Testastretta L-twin producing 110 hp, and unlike the race-focused Panigale it offers a more comfortable riding position and longer 15,000 km service intervals. A half-fairing, sporty handling and a kerb weight of around 209 kg combine into a versatile machine equally at home on motorways and twisty roads. Ducati also offers the Supersport in S trim with Öhlins suspension and a taller screen.
The Supersport targets riders who want the L-twin experience and Ducati character without the high maintenance costs and demanding position of a true superbike. The 810 mm seat height and slightly forward-leaning posture are accessible for average-height riders. On track it is less focused than a Panigale, but it is an excellent choice for fast road riding and occasional track days. Competitors include the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX and Honda CBR650R.

What to check before buying
- Check the cam belts for wear: replacement every two years or 15,000 km is recommended; including on low-mileage examples.
- Inspect the desmodromic valve service history; the 15,000 km interval is generous but must not be skipped.
- Check the clutch for smooth, judder-free engagement; complaints about a harsh clutch pull are known on early models.
- Assess the Öhlins suspension (S model) for leaks and even damping at both ends.
- Check the TFT display and Ducati Connect software for correct operation; connectivity issues have been reported on early models following app updates.
