About the Ducati 900
The Ducati 900 is a family of Italian V-twin motorcycles powered by an 864 cc air-cooled Desmo twin, produced in various forms from the mid-1970s to the early 2000s. The most common variants are the 900 SuperSport (1975–1982, bevel-drive air-cooled), 900 Monster (1993–1999, naked), and 900 SS (1990–2002, half-faired). The L-twin configuration (90°) and desmodromic valve actuation are defining features of Ducati's heritage.
The Ducati 900 appeals to classic and Italian sports motorcycle enthusiasts who accept slightly greater maintenance demands in exchange for character and sound. The Monster 900 is one of the most rider-friendly Ducatis for daily use. The 900 SS is a purist's machine for corner carvers. Period rivals included the Honda CB900F and Kawasaki Z900, but the Ducati 900's character is unmatched. Parts knowledge and specialist Ducati workshops are readily available in the Netherlands.

What to check before buying
- Check desmodromic valve clearance service history (every 15,000 km); skipped desmo service leads to valve-to-piston contact
- Inspect rubber hoses for cooling and fuel for cracks on older examples; original rubber degrades after 30+ years
- Ask about the dry clutch condition (Monster/900 SS) for wear and correct adjustment; a slipping or grabbing clutch is a common issue
- Check the electrical system for corrosion on Veglia and Lafranconi components; late 1990s Italian electrics are susceptible to oxidation
- Look for oil leaks at the wheel bearings and at the 900 SS swingarm pivot or Monster suspension linkage bearings
