About the Ducati 750
The Ducati 750 is the name for a line of classic L-twin motorcycles produced by Ducati from 1971 through the early 1980s, with the 750 GT, 750 Sport, and legendary 750 Super Sport as its key variants. The 748cc L-twin with desmodromic valve actuation, Ducati's signature system using mechanical positive closure rather than valve springs, debuted in the 750 GT and established the engineering foundation for every subsequent Ducati twin. The model's 1–2 finish at Imola in 1972 cemented Ducati's reputation as a genuine performance brand.
The Ducati 750 suits enthusiasts with a deep interest in Italian motorcycle history. The riding position is low and upright, the character uncompromising, and the desmodromic valve train demands specialist knowledge for correct maintenance. As a daily ride it is demanding; as a collectable or weekend machine it is irreplaceable. It competes in the classic motorcycle market with the Honda CB750 and Moto Guzzi V7.

What to check before buying
- Check desmodromic valve clearances: incorrect settings cause engine damage and adjustment requires dedicated Ducati tooling or a trained specialist.
- Inspect the bevel-drive camshaft gears for wear on the bevel teeth; repair is specialist work and expensive.
- Look at the electrical system condition; Ducati's 1970s electrics are notorious for wiring harness deterioration and generator failures.
- Confirm availability of replacement parts; original carburettors, points, and period-correct consumables are scarce and command premium prices.
