What to check before buying
- Verify model and engine number before naming the version. Metralla 62, later 250cc Metralla and Metralla MK2 differ; a generic Metralla name is insufficient for choosing parts or specifications.
- Check compression, crank seals, carburettor, fuel tap and tank for stable cold starting and clean throttle response. On an air-cooled classic two-stroke, an air leak or stale fuel warrants further investigation.
- Check premix lubrication against the correct factory instructions and inspect plug, exhaust and engine for signs of lean or rich running. Do not use a modern jetting or oil-ratio claim as evidence of the original version.
- Test clutch, gearbox, chain and controls under load; selection should not jump out of gear or persistently find false neutrals. Check cables and adjustment first.
- Inspect steel frame, forks, drum brakes, hubs, rims and spokes for corrosion, cracks, wear and old competition or road modifications.
