Years2021–present
The Euro 5 Scrambler adds updated exhaust/electronics and cornering ABS while retaining the recognisable 1170 cc boxer character and high exhaust. It suits riders wanting newer regulations and safety systems without losing the retro concept.

Years2016–2020
The first R nineT Scrambler combines BMW's air/oil-cooled 1170 cc boxer with a high exhaust, 19-inch front wheel and relaxed scrambler stance. It is made chiefly for style and road use, not lightweight off-road work despite its appearance.

The BMW R nineT Scrambler is a retro-adventure naked built around the 1170 cc air/oil-cooled boxer twin from the R nineT family. It puts out 110 hp through a six-speed gearbox with shaft drive. BMW launched the Scrambler in 2016 as a lighter, higher-slung variant with spoked wheels and a leaner silhouette compared to the standard R nineT.
The Scrambler targets riders who want the boxer's character paired with a playful, off-road-inspired aesthetic. Its riding position is slightly more forward than a pure naked but remains comfortable for daily use and back-road touring. Key rivals are the Ducati Scrambler 1100 and Triumph Scrambler 1200. Not ideal for complete beginners due to the torque and weight, but more approachable than many 1200-class machines.
Inspect spoke nipples and rims for damage; nipples can loosen with regular off-road or spirited use.
Check exhaust clamps and heat shields for missing bolts; boxer vibration works fasteners loose over time.
Inspect the driveshaft and Paralever joint for oil leaks, which appear more frequently at higher mileages.
Check ABS sensor rings for rust and debris; corrosion on the tone ring triggers ABS fault codes.
