The BMW R1100RT is a full-specification touring motorcycle produced from 1996 to 2001. Its air-cooled 1085 cc boxer twin produces 90 hp, delivered through shaft drive with Paralever rear suspension and the innovative Telelever front fork, a layout that virtually eliminates brake dive. The large integrated fairing provides excellent weather protection, and with optional side and top cases the R1100RT is a capable long-distance tourer. It was the first BMW tourer to offer optional ABS.
The R1100RT targets experienced riders prioritising comfort, reliability, and dynamics over long distances. The ergonomics are tuned for fatigue-free riding over many hours. Two-up capability is solid thanks to wide seats and well-positioned pillion pegs. On the used market it now represents a cost-effective entry point to the touring class.
