RR 520 (2010–2014)

About the Beta RR 520
The Beta RR 520 belongs to the first generation of Beta's in-house RR four-strokes, built from 2010 through 2014. Factory documentation lists the RR 520 with a 497.9cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, four valves, a counterbalancer, electric start and a Keihin FCR-MX 39 carburettor. Its six-speed gearbox and chain final drive suit a large-capacity, competition-focused enduro. Always verify the model year and designation in an advert: the later RR 480 is not an RR 520 and does not belong to this generation.
For a buyer, the RR 520 is principally a powerful off-road motorcycle for open terrain, sand and fast enduro riding. It is not a calm beginner machine, and service history matters more than mileage alone. Check recorded operating hours, oil and filter changes, air-filter care, and damage around the cooling system, underside and chassis. An original motorcycle with documented maintenance is much easier to assess than one with uncertain carburettor tuning or a race history.

What to check before buying
- On a 2010 or 2011 RR, verify that the cam-chain tensioner has been inspected or updated; Beta offered a quieter manual replacement specifically for those model years.
- For hard off-road use, ask for oil and pump-service evidence. Beta offered steel oil-pump gears for 2010–2014 RR/RS four-strokes to replace the original plastic gears.
- Start the engine cold and hot and check its idle. Inspect the Keihin carburettor, airbox and intake rubber for dirt ingress, leaks and improvised jetting.
- Inspect radiators, hoses and any coolant traces closely; low speed and difficult terrain put load on the cooling system.
