RR 400 (2010–2014)
GenerationThe original 398cc carburetted RR 400 four-stroke. Identify it as the 2010–2014 RR family; do not confuse it with the later 390, 430 or 480.
About the Beta RR 400
The Beta RR 400 is the four-stroke enduro in the RR family for model years 2010 through 2014. It is not a later 390 or 430 carrying an older name: this RR 400 uses Beta's documented 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, with four valves, a counterbalancer, electric start and a Keihin FCR-MX 39 carburettor. Its six-speed gearbox and chain final drive suit a light, focused off-road machine; always check that an advertised bike's year and engine identity belong to this generation.
For a used-bike buyer, this is a serious enduro for trails, sand and technical riding rather than a relaxed road tourer. Its capacity is relatively manageable within the competition-oriented RR concept, but its maintenance needs should match use in dust, mud and low-speed terrain. Check recorded hours, service evidence and signs of off-road or race damage. Do not automatically compare an advertised bike with the later Beta 390, 430 or 480, as those do not belong to this RR 400 profile.

What to check before buying
- On a 2010 or 2011 RR, verify that the cam-chain tensioner has been inspected or updated; Beta offered a quieter manual replacement specifically for those model years.
- For a bike used heavily in sand, mud or competition, ask for oil and pump-service evidence. Beta offered steel oil-pump gears for 2010–2014 RR/RS four-strokes to replace the original plastic gears.
- Start the engine cold and hot, check its idle, and inspect the Keihin carburettor, airbox and intake rubber for dirt ingress, leaks and improvised jetting.
- Inspect radiators, hoses, fan provision and any coolant traces; sustained technical off-road riding places significant load on the cooling system.
