About the Yamaha YZF 750
The Yamaha YZF750R is a Japanese supersport motorcycle produced by Yamaha from 1993 to 1998, powered by a water-cooled inline-four of 749 cc producing around 106 hp. The YZF750R was Yamaha's answer to the Honda FireBlade and succeeded the FZR750R as the homologation model for the World Superbike class. The engine was a direct descendant of the factory Superbike racer and featured fully adjustable Kayaba suspension, twin radial brakes and a sporty half-fairing. A special SP variant with Ohlins suspension was available for race homologation. Yamaha produced the YZF750R from 1993 to 1998, after which the R1 took over.
The YZF750R targets sport riders seeking a demanding and rewarding riding experience on the road and circuit. The riding position is sporty but not as extreme as a pure race machine. As a used bike it is popular with riders who appreciate the classic 750 cc supersport generation. Its position between the FZR and the R1 era has made it an affordable entry into that class.

What to check before buying
- Check the Kayaba fork for oil leaks and correct setup: original fork legs are no longer available new; rebuild requires specialist knowledge.
- Inspect the four Mikuni carburettors for even synchronisation and needle valve condition.
- Check the coolant hoses and thermostat for hardness and cracking: 30-year-old rubber is typically due for replacement.
- Verify the valve seat and cylinder head condition: the YZF750R requires regular valve adjustment that becomes necessary quickly under sporting use.
- Watch the fairing mounts and panels: YZF750R-specific bodywork is no longer available new and is scarce second-hand.
