GenerationThe TW 200 is Yamaha's long-running fat-tyre trail bike with a 196cc four-stroke and very wide tyres. Low-speed traction and simplicity matter more than motorway performance.
About the Yamaha TW 200
The Yamaha TW 200 is the original fat-tyre trail motorcycle: an air-cooled 196cc four-stroke with extremely wide tyres, a low seat and a relaxed nature. It was sold for many years in several markets and is loved for beach paths, camping use and short unpaved rides. Do not expect modern adventure performance; the TW excels through simplicity, low-speed traction and distinctive looks.
When buying, a standard or carefully modified bike is the best starting point. Check carburettor, air filter and tank for storage-related issues. The rear tyre determines both handling and cost, while chain and sprockets can wear quickly with sand use. Also inspect exhaust and frame for rust. With good maintenance, the TW 200 is a dependable, almost utilitarian light motorcycle.

What to check before buying
- Check air filter and intake for sand or dust traces; this engine does not tolerate contamination well.
- Inspect the wide rear tyre for cracks, age and damage; its size costs more than a conventional motorcycle tyre.
- Check chain, sprockets and swingarm for wear from sand and beach use.
- Inspect exhaust, frame and spoked wheels for corrosion, especially on coastal bikes.
