GenerationThe 150 cc 946 adds useful reserve without changing the design concept. Special series such as Emporio Armani, RED and Dior mainly vary in trim and production run; judge paperwork and originality rather than colour or decals alone.

GenerationThe first 946 combines the minimalist aluminium rear section and solo seat with the 125 cc three-valve engine. It is the A1-licence version; certificate, serial number and vulnerable design parts deserve extra scrutiny.
About the Vespa 946
The Vespa 946 is a limited-edition couture scooter Piaggio launched in 2013 as a tribute to the original 1945 MP6 prototype, the model number references that date. Marc Sadler's design pairs an aluminium rear fender with a thin floating solo saddle and LED lighting. Beneath the pressed-steel body sits either a 125 cc (8.7 kW) or 150 cc (9.7 kW) air-cooled three-valve i-get four-stroke driving a CVT, with ABS and traction control standard.
The 946 is not a practical daily scooter but a collector's object. Under-seat storage was sacrificed for styling, the seat is solo only and the asking price sits well above a GTS. Piaggio releases annual limited series in collaboration with Armani, Dior, RED and Christian Dior, each with a serial number and certificate. The target buyer is an Italian-design enthusiast who treats the 946 as a display piece. A Primavera or GTS makes far more sense for daily commuting; the 946 is bought for its styling and exclusivity.

What to check before buying
- Verify the serial number and the matching limited-edition certificate are present; without paperwork resale value drops sharply.
- Inspect the aluminium rear fender and chromed accents for scratches or pitting; these parts are costly and unavailable for older series.
- Check the one-piece sport saddle for cracks and seam wear; replacements are scarce on the used market.
- Ask for proof of valve clearance service (12,000 km interval) and variator service; many 946s sit unused and oil ages regardless.
- Test the LED lighting and instrument cluster; older units develop faults in the digital clock display.
