Rally 180
GenerationThe original Rally 180 with rotary-valve two-stroke and four-speed transmission. Its broad body and 10-inch wheels make it visibly larger and more touring-oriented than smaller period Vespas.
About the Vespa 180 Rally
The Vespa Rally 180 was Piaggio's fast flagship from 1968 to 1973. Its air-cooled 181 cc rotary-valve two-stroke, four-speed gearbox and 10-inch wheels made it noticeably more flexible than a Super or Sprint. The broad body, round headlamp and spare wheel behind the leg shield are all characteristic Rally details.
For an enthusiast it is a usable classic touring scooter with strong collector appeal. Do not expect modern braking performance or refinement: the attraction is its direct controls and relaxed back-road pace. A complete, correctly restored Rally 180 is generally more desirable than one with a later engine or incorrect trim.

What to check before buying
- Check frame and engine numbers for a correct Rally 180; engines and leg-shield badges are often swapped.
- Inspect floor panels, tunnel and leg shield for corrosion or heavy filler beneath restoration paint.
- Test rotary-valve intake behaviour, crank seals and shift quality; difficult starting or slipping through gears needs investigation.
- Check drum brakes, wiring loom and 6V charging system for safe operation.
