Classic largeframe Vespa with a 124cc manual two-stroke and steel monocoque. On purchase, body rust, original parts and cable/brake condition determine real quality.
The Vespa 125 GTR is a classic steel-bodied 125cc manual scooter from the late 1960s and early 1970s. It belongs to the traditional largeframe Vespas and combines a monocoque steel body with an air-cooled two-stroke and foot-operated rear brake. The GTR is loved for timeless styling and simple mechanics, but is now mainly bought as an oldtimer.
On a 125 GTR, body condition is the first filter: rust in floorboard, tunnel and underside can matter far more than dull paint. Engine, shift cables and brakes come next. A complete original scooter with correct numbers, exhaust and carburettor is more valuable than a fast or cosmetically modified GTR. Test ride with attention to every gear, steady running and braking; poor cables or a worn engine quickly make classic charm less practical.
