About the Triumph Speedmaster
The Triumph Speedmaster is a retro cruiser in Triumph's Bonneville family. The first generation (2003–2017) was powered by the 865cc air-cooled parallel twin and positioned itself as an affordable, lightweight cruiser with British character. From 2018 the second generation arrived with the 1200cc High-Torque engine, a liquid-cooled parallel twin with more torque and riding modes, built on the new Bonneville platform.
The Speedmaster targets cruiser riders who want the minimalist style of a bobber combined with everyday rideability. The low seat height and relaxed riding position make it accessible. The bike is more comfortable than a V-twin Harley competitor but less sporty than the Triumph Thruxton. Competitors include the Honda CMX500 Rebel and Kawasaki Vulcan S.

What to check before buying
- Check the cylinder head gaskets and fin seals on the older 865cc engine for oil leaks; common at higher mileages.
- Inspect the stainless exhaust on the 1200cc HT version for corrosion at brackets and joints.
- Verify that riding modes and the TFC system (2018+) function correctly; documented ECU software faults have been reported.
- Check spoke and rim condition: spoked wheels require periodic tension checks.
