About the Triumph Cornet
Triumph Cornet is a rare historic designation for a lightweight classic motorcycle. Registrations point to an approximately 200cc example from the 1950s, but the name does not reliably identify one uniform factory series. Check the maker's plate, frame number, engine code and documentation before accepting an advert's year or exact version. On old imports and restorations, the trade name, engine capacity and components may differ.
For buyers, originality, engine condition and the quality of previous restoration work matter more than the model name alone. Ask for a cold start, check compression and oil tightness, and assess the electrical system critically. Also inspect brakes, rims and the availability of correct parts. A documented, technically coherent example is worth more than a machine with only an attractive historic title.

What to check before buying
- Check the maker's plate, frame number, engine number and registration document together; Cornet is not a sufficiently precise factory identity by itself.
- Assess cold starting, compression, smoke and leaks, and ask for invoices for engine, ignition or carburettor work.
- Inspect brakes, rims, spokes, wiring and mounting points for corrosion, age and non-original repairs.
