The Suzuki VS 700 Intruder is a V-twin cruiser launched in 1985 as the entry point of Suzuki's Intruder line. Its air-cooled 45-degree 699 cc V-twin produces 50 hp and delivers the low, forward-leaning riding position, forward-set footpegs, and low seat height that define the cruiser segment. Styling is clearly inspired by American custom motorcycles, combined with the reliability and ease of maintenance associated with Japanese engineering. Production ran until approximately 1988, when the VS 800 succeeded it.
The VS 700 suits riders making their first move into cruiser territory. At around 198 kg, it is manageable, the engine is smooth and linear, and day-to-day maintenance is straightforward. Typical use is long-distance touring and commuting. It competes historically with the Honda Shadow VT700 and Kawasaki VN750. Today most examples have classic status and trade as accessible entry-level collectibles.
