Half-faired sporting version using the same 572 cc four-cylinder engine.
The Suzuki GSX 550 was a compact sporting four-cylinder machine positioned between the 400 and 750 classes in the mid-1980s. Its air-cooled 572 cc sixteen-valve engine uses Suzuki's TSCC combustion chambers and produces around 64 hp through a six-speed gearbox. The naked E, half-faired ES and fully faired EF share the same mechanical base but differ in wind protection, weight and styling.
The GSX 550 is now a rare classic. Check carburettors, valve clearances, cam chain, charging voltage and the condition of the tank and exhaust. Original fairing panels, airboxes and silencers are difficult to find; café-racer conversions often reduce originality and may include wiring or frame changes. A 570 cc registration is a rounding of the actual 572 cc. The selected Commons photograph shows an exact Suzuki GSX550 EF.
