About this model

About the Peugeot Elystar

The Peugeot Elystar is a streamlined urban scooter offered from 2002 in several capacities. The name covers 50, 125 and 150cc versions, including 50cc TSDI direct-injection variants and versions with electronic four-stroke injection. Elystar alone therefore does not identify engine, brake system or parts: always check the type plate and engine code on the actual scooter.

For everyday use, the Elystar offers weather protection and full-size scooter comfort. When buying, it is wise to have injection or ABS/PBS-equipped versions diagnosed. A warning light that does not extinguish normally, an empty oil tank or neglected brake hydraulics are not details to overlook on an older scooter.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Identify the version first (50/125/150, TSDI or EFI) from type plate and engine code; check that the injection warning behaves normally after starting and have fault codes read.
  • Inspect fuel pump, hoses and injection components for leaks or contamination; the workshop manual stresses that the injection system uses precision parts that cannot tolerate impurities.
  • Check oil level and automatic lubrication on 50cc two-stroke versions; the owner manual says an emptied oil reservoir must be properly purged before restarting.
  • Test brake fluid, pads and the ABS/PBS warning light where fitted; inspect battery, charging voltage, fuses and all lighting.
