About the Mv Agusta 125 TEL
The MV Agusta 125 TEL is one of the Italian brand's first production models, built from 1948 to 1952. The TEL designation stands for 'Turismo Economico Lusso' and the engine is a 123 cc two-stroke single with a simple but robust construction. MV Agusta was known at the time for building aircraft and brought the same engineering precision to motorcycles. The 125 TEL was intended for the general public as affordable urban transport.
Today the 125 TEL appeals exclusively to collectors of early post-war Italian motorcycles. Riding it is feasible but requires technical knowledge and a well-stocked toolbox. As a historical object it stands at the foundation of what would become a world-famous racing brand. There are no direct market competitors; it is compared with early Vespas and Montesa two-strokes of the same generation.

What to check before buying
- Check the two-stroke engine for correct oil conditioning; wrong mix ratio permanently damages piston and cylinder.
- Inspect the magneto ignition unit for deterioration; weak spark is the most common starting problem.
- Look for cracks and fractures in the original wheel rims; 70+ year old wheels are fragile under riding use.
- Verify that the carburettor is original; replacement units often fit poorly and cause rich or lean running.
- Check for completeness: missing parts are virtually impossible to reproduce to original specifications.
