1999–2008 · W650
GenerationThe W650 is one technical production phase: an air-cooled 676 cc SOHC parallel twin with five speeds, carburettors and bevel-shaft drive. The later Final Edition does not change engine, chassis or filter values. Check trim, brakes and any restriction per individual bike.
About the Kawasaki W 650
The Kawasaki W650 is the retro twin from 1999–2008, with an air-cooled 676 cc parallel twin, five speeds, chain drive and distinctive bevel-shaft overhead cam drive. It is inspired by Kawasaki's 1960s W series, but is a modern classic mechanically: reliable ignition and brakes, without modern rider aids or fuel injection.
The W650 suits riders seeking a relaxed classic roadster for back roads and daily use. Buy on an even-running engine, healthy carburettors, well-kept bevel drive, wire wheels and chrome. It can be restricted for A2, but is not automatically A2 compliant in standard 38 kW form. A 2008/2009 Final Edition is not a new technical generation; colours and badges do not change the base.

What to check before buying
- Check bevel-shaft drive for correct noise, oil and maintenance; do not dismiss abnormal mechanical noise as 'classic'.
- Test cold start, carburettors, intake rubbers and fuel tank for leaks, contamination and even response.
- Inspect spoke tension, wheels, chrome, exhaust and swingarm for corrosion and poor storage.
- Check chain, sprockets, calipers, brake fluid and fork seals for age and deferred maintenance.
- Confirm an A2 restrictor with documentation when claimed; standard output exceeds 35 kW.
