The Kawasaki KZ 440 is a parallel twin produced from 1980 until around 1985 as an entry-level model in Kawasaki's four-stroke line-up. The air-cooled DOHC 443cc twin produced around 40 hp and was intended as an affordable, reliable everyday machine. The KZ 440 was offered as a standard naked (KZ440-A), an LTD custom-bobber variant, and later as the belt-driven KZ440-D, an early experiment with belt final drive in the middleweight class.
The KZ 440 suits beginners and riders seeking a friendly classic Japanese twin. Handling is forgiving and the ergonomics are neutral. Used prices remain modest, making it popular with newcomers wanting their first classic Japanese experience. Comparable to the Honda CB400T and Yamaha XS400. Reliable when properly maintained.
