About the Honda XR 650
The Honda XR 650 name covers two distinctly different large single-cylinder enduros. The 1993 XR650L is an air-cooled, electric-start dual-sport focused on simplicity and longevity. The 2000 XR650R is a liquid-cooled, kick-start-only competition machine with an aluminium frame and much stronger performance, developed for fast desert racing.
For everyday use the L is heavier but friendlier and better equipped for the road. The R is lighter, faster and more demanding, with short gearing and minimal road equipment. Always confirm the model letter because parts and maintenance are largely incompatible. Many XR650s have been converted into supermoto or rally machines. Correct cooling, air-filter history, frame condition and reliable registration matter more than cosmetic accessories.
