About the Honda MTX 80
The Honda MTX 80 is a light 1980s two-stroke enduro. Its 79cc single, long suspension travel and large wheels suit unpaved paths and calm connecting roads. The MTX is small but not a toy: a healthy two-stroke needs attention to rebuild history, oil injection, cooling where fitted and a tight chassis.
When buying, mechanical condition and complete original parts matter more than cosmetics. Check cylinder, piston, crankshaft and carburation, and look for damage to rims, fork legs and radiators. Many examples were youth motorcycles or long-stored projects. A bike with good compression, sound brakes and no play in steering head or linkages is the wiser foundation.

What to check before buying
- Check cylinder, piston and crankshaft for rebuild history and listen for noises.
- Test oil injection, carburettor and any cooling system for correct operation.
- Inspect wheels, forks, frame and linkages for off-road or youth-use damage.
- Check brakes, tyres and wiring for age-related deterioration after storage.
