About the Honda CR 125
The Honda CR 125 is a single-cylinder two-stroke motocross bike produced by Honda from 1973 to 2007. The 124 cc two-stroke engine was continuously developed over three decades, evolving from a basic 1973 design into a competitive factory weapon in the 125cc racing class during the 1990s and 2000s. The bike is lightweight, nimble and intended exclusively for off-road or closed-circuit use, not road-legal.
The CR 125 targets experienced motocross riders and junior competition riders stepping up to the 125cc class. It demands an active riding style and meticulous maintenance; in particular, the two-stroke powerband requires experience to exploit. Direct rivals include the Yamaha YZ 125 and Suzuki RM 125. Used examples are sought after as training bikes and for club-level competition.

What to check before buying
- Inspect the piston and cylinder bore for scoring or wear; two-stroke engines used in competition are stressed hard and vulnerable to incorrect fuel-oil mixing.
- Check the exhaust system (pipe and ATAC/RC-VALVE power valve) for corrosion, cracks or broken springs; a failed power valve causes significant mid-range power loss.
- Inspect front and rear suspension for oil leaks and worn damping; degraded suspension seriously affects handling and safety.
- Check clutch plates and pressure spring for wear; heavy circuit use wears the clutch quickly.
- Check whether the bike has ever been submerged (stream crossing, tip-over in water); internal corrosion in the crankcase may be present.
