The Harley-Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight (XL1200X) is a bobber-style cruiser produced from 2010 to 2020. The engine is an air-cooled 1202 cc Evolution V-twin producing 66 hp and 101 Nm of torque. The model is defined by its peanut fuel tank of just 7.9 litres, a nod to the tank Harley used in the 1940s, paired with minimalist bobber styling, drag bars and a low 710 mm seat height. In 2018 the Forty-Eight Special was added as a premium variant with a larger matte tank and extra chrome. Production ended in 2020 when Harley replaced the entire Sportster line.
The Forty-Eight attracts riders who prefer low, stripped-back bobber style over long-distance comfort. The 7.9-litre fuel tank limits range to around 150 km, making frequent fuel stops necessary. The low-bar, mid-controls position is sporting for a cruiser. It suits experienced riders; it is not eligible for A2-licence riders. Direct competitors are the Indian Scout Bobber and Honda CMX1100 Rebel.
A used Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight costs €10,725 on average. Most cost €8,550 to €12,950. This is based on 36 motorcycles for sale now.
