About the Ducati Multistrada V4 S
The Ducati Multistrada V4 S has topped Ducati's adventure-touring range since 2021 and was the first Multistrada to receive the 1158 cc Granturismo V4. This engine delivers 170 hp, abandons Desmodromic valve actuation and as a result enjoys extended service intervals, valve clearance checks at 60,000 km instead of the 30,000 km required on the older V-twin Multistradas. The V4 S adds semi-active Skyhook suspension over the base V4, keyless ignition and (from 2022) optional radar for adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
The target rider is a tourer who wants long-distance comfort with light off-road capability. Ergonomics are upright, the seat is adjustable between 840 and 860 mm and luggage capacity with optional panniers is generous. Competitors include the BMW R 1300 GS, KTM 1390 Super Adventure and Triumph Tiger 1200. Compared with the GS the V4 S is sportier and more powerful, but heavier at 243 kg wet. Expect high fuel consumption when ridden hard and significant tyre costs, a set of sport-touring tyres for the 19/17-inch wheels easily runs 400-500 EUR.

What to check before buying
- Check that the rear cylinder deactivation function operates correctly; firmware issues have been reported.
- On early 2021 models verify the water-pump oil-bath service action has been performed; Ducati issued a campaign for this.
- Inspect the radar module (V4 S Travel) for mounting damage after minor falls; replacement is expensive.
- Confirm the electronic packages (riding modes, IMU, semi-active suspension) report no error codes on the TFT.
- On higher-mileage examples check rear suspension linkage bushings and chain wear, both stressed by the bike's mass.
