About the Ducati 900 S2
The Ducati 900 S2 was the more restrained successor within Ducati's large bevel-twin sports range in the early 1980s. Its air-cooled 864 cc L-twin uses desmodromic valve gear, Dell'Orto carburettors and five speeds. With a half fairing, narrow tank and classic tubular frame, it combines long-distance stability with a more direct character than a tourer. Production was limited, so correct bodywork and exhaust components now represent much of its value.
First verify that engine, frame and specification genuinely belong together. Ask about valve clearances, ignition, carburettors and documented crankshaft and bevel-drive work. Start it completely cold and listen for heavy bearing noise while checking smoke and uneven idle. Inspect tank, frame, welds and fairing mounts for corrosion or previous damage. Check suspension, steering head, swingarm, brakes and charging output. A beautiful S2 without history can cost more than a used but documented example because specialist rebuilds and original components are expensive.
