1966–1970 A65T Thunderbolt

What to check before buying
- Check oil pressure, oil return and documented servicing of the pump and timing-side bearing arrangement. On the A65 unit twin, a warped alloy oil pump or inadequate big-end feed can cause serious engine damage; assess this with a specialist, not by sound alone.
- Check the single Amal carburettor for correct float operation, leakage and throttle response. Early Monoblocs are more prone to flooding; BSA used an Amal Concentric from 1968. Do not identify a version from a carburettor swap alone.
- Test the 12V charging system, Zener regulator, coils, wiring and earth connections hot and under load. Loose or corroded connections are a safety and reliability risk on a classic twin.
- Inspect the frame, fixings and engine carefully for oil leaks and corrosion. On 1971–1972 oil-in-frame machines, the oil-carrying frame tube, cap, hoses and connections should be specifically dry and undamaged.
- Verify A65T frame/engine number, year and market version. The Thunderbolt is the single-carb A65; Lightning/Firebird parts and the later BSA T65-badged Triumph TR6 are not automatically correct for an A65T.
