1988-1989 YB7 FZR400
GenerationThe sole YB7 series is the 398 cc FZR400-powered sport motorcycle from 1988–1989. It uses a liquid-cooled DOHC inline four, aluminium perimeter frame, Marzocchi fork and Ohlins rear shock; keep it separate from the larger 1000 cc YB models.
About the Bimota YB 7
The Bimota YB7 is a small-displacement Japanese-market sport motorcycle from 1988–1989 built around Yamaha’s liquid-cooled FZR400 inline four. Bimota paired the 398 cc four-cylinder with an aluminium perimeter frame, Marzocchi fork, Ohlins rear shock and Brembo brakes. This YB7 is separate from the larger YB6, YB8, YB10 and YB11 models with 1000 cc Yamaha engines. On a used example, verify the originality of the frame, bodywork and exhaust, and have the carburettors, Yamaha engine components and suspension assessed for condition.

What to check before buying
- Inspect the frame, swingarm, steering stops and aluminium perimeter structure closely for crash or corrosion damage; YB7-specific parts are scarce.
- Have the four carburettors, intake rubbers, fuel hoses and setup checked; long storage often causes running problems.
- Verify the Yamaha engine's service history, including valve clearance, cooling system, charging voltage and any exhaust-valve-related parts.
- Inspect the Marzocchi fork and Ohlins rear shock for leaks, overhaul history and availability of suitable parts.
- Check the Brembo brakes, 17-inch wheels, bearings, tyres and original bodywork mounts for safe condition and authenticity.
