1987-1988 YB5 Folgore
GenerationThe YB5 Folgore is the 1188 cc Yamaha FJ1200-powered Bimota from 1987–1988. It combines an air/oil-cooled inline four with a Bimota chassis and 17-inch sport wheels; keep it separate from smaller YB models using FZR engines.
About the Bimota YB 5
The Bimota YB5 is an extremely rare Italian sport-tourer from 1987–1988 built around Yamaha’s 1188 cc FJ1200 inline four. Bimota paired the reliable Yamaha engine with a much lighter chassis, its own suspension and a compact fairing. On a used example, verify original YB5 frame and swingarm parts, engine code and documentation: the small series and age make authenticity and parts history more important than a generic FJ1200 comparison.

What to check before buying
- Check Yamaha engine code, carburettors, fuel hoses and intake rubbers for age-related issues and stable setup.
- Inspect the chrome-moly frame, aluminium plates, swingarm and steering stops carefully for cracks, corrosion or crash damage.
- Check brakes, wheels, tyres, bearings and suspension units for safe condition and availability of suitable parts.
- Ask for documentation of valve clearance, carburettor service, chain/sprocket maintenance and charging voltage.
- Compare bodywork, exhaust, instruments and mounting hardware with period documentation; YB5s are often individually modified.
