About this model

About the Bimota KB 3

The Bimota KB3 is the third Bimota to use a Kawasaki engine and was introduced in 1983. It combines the air-cooled 998cc Kawasaki Z1000J inline four with Bimota's own sporting chassis concept. The KB3 belongs to the short 1983–1984 production run and is not a KB1 or KB2: the KB1 uses the earlier Z900/Z1000 family, while the compact KB2 is based on smaller Kawasaki fours. On any historic motorcycle, always verify frame, engine and documentary numbers, as original components and donor engines determine the exact specification.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Verify that engine, numbering and documentation belong to a 1983–1984 KB3 with Kawasaki Z1000J basis. Eighty of the 112 KB3s were supplied as kits, so donor and build records are essential.
  • Inspect engine mounts, frame plates, wiring loom, instruments and lighting for complete, tidy installation. These items came from a separate donor on kit Bimotas, so improvised connections deserve closer investigation.
  • Check the half-fairing, its mountings and sidestand for cracks, missing parts or non-original repairs. Record any deviation before purchase, as Bimota-specific parts are not interchangeable with Kawasaki items.
