Years
1982 - 1984
1982-1984 KB2S Laser 550
GenerationThe later KB2S/Laser uses the 550 cc Kawasaki inline four and is the developed compact KB2. Keep it separate from the earlier 500, and verify engine code, original Bimota parts and documentation before ordering performance-specific components.
Years
1981 - 1981
1981 KB2 500
GenerationThe first KB2 is the compact Kawasaki inline-four version from the early 1980s. It is recognisable by its Bimota trellis construction and 500 cc donor configuration; verify every motorcycle individually, as kits and donor parts often differ.
About the Bimota KB 2
The Bimota KB2 is a rare early Bimota sport motorcycle with a Kawasaki inline four in a light Italian chassis. The KB2 family includes the first 500 version and the later 550/KB2S Laser; both are distinctly different from the larger KB1/KB3. When buying, verify frame plate, engine number, drivetrain type and original 16-inch components, as many examples were supplied as kits or modified later.

What to check before buying
- Inspect the frame, welds, steering stops and engine/swingarm mounts for crash, corrosion or track damage.
- Verify Kawasaki engine code, capacity and carburettor/exhaust configuration; KB2 examples can have a different donor or kit history.
- Check carburettors, fuel hoses, tank and intake rubbers for age-related issues after long storage.
- Inspect brakes, 16-inch wheels, tyres and bearings for availability of suitable parts and safe condition.
- Ask for documentation of engine, suspension and transmission rebuilds, plus a charging-system and wiring check.
