Generations and editions
Features and handling differ by generation. Use this overview to find the right version.
Years
1997 - 1998
1997–1998 DB2 EF
EditionThe final DB2 series. Use year together with EF documentation and frame number for identification, as bodywork and engine components can have been swapped between versions.
Years
1994 - 1996
1994–1996 DB2 SR
EditionThe SR added electronic fuel injection to the 904 cc DB2. Look explicitly for the SR designation and matching components because its years overlap with the base version.
Years
1993 - 1995
1993–1995 DB2
GenerationThe base DB2 with carburetted Ducati 904 Desmodue. This is the reference version; check originality of intake, exhaust and chassis components.
About the Bimota DB 2
The Bimota DB2 is the second Ducati-powered Bimota, coupling Ducati 900 SS's air-cooled 904 cc Desmodue to a light, high-quality Italian sport chassis. The standard DB2 arrived in 1993, followed by the electronically fuel-injected DB2 SR and the final DB2 EF. DB2 is therefore a model family with several specifications, not one uniform set of figures.
It appeals to riders who want the character of the two-valve Ducati L-twin with a more exotic chassis and low production numbers. Its performance is less explosive than later four-valve superbikes, but torque, low mass and steering precision are the draw. Match year, frame plate and fuel system carefully to the claimed version; original parts and documented maintenance matter more than cosmetic perfection.

What to check before buying
- Identify standard, SR or EF from the frame number, fuel system and original documentation.
- On the 904 Desmodue, check timing-belt service, valve clearances and leaks around heads and crankcases.
- Check carburettors or injection for storage-related issues, poor throttle response and non-standard set-up.
- Inspect the Bimota frame, swingarm and bodywork mounts for cracks, damage and incorrect fasteners.
- Ask for overhaul history of Paioli/Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes, and about DB2-specific parts availability.
