About the Benelli Velvet 150
The Benelli Velvet 150 is a comfortable mid-size scooter from the Velvet family, built from 2000 to 2013 with a break in production. It combines step-through bodywork, a CVT automatic transmission and a roughly 150 cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine. The first 150 used a liquid-cooled Yamaha/Minarelli engine; after production restarted, a Euro 3 version arrived with a different air-cooled 151 cc engine. That distinction matters for parts, servicing and comparing adverts.
The Velvet suits commuting and relaxed trips beyond town rather than being a lightweight city moped. Its broad seat, luggage capacity and fairing make it practical, while the 13-inch front and 12-inch rear wheels are useful identifiers. Always verify the year, type plate and engine when buying: an advert stating only ‘Velvet 150’ does not identify the technical version.

What to check before buying
- Check invoices for regular CVT belt and roller replacement; jerky take-off or high revs without acceleration needs investigation.
- Test cold and hot starting and measure charging voltage; a weak battery or poor charging connection shows up quickly on a city-used scooter.
- Inspect front and rear discs, calipers and brake hoses for even braking, corrosion and sticking components.
- On the early liquid-cooled version, check coolant level, hoses and signs of leakage around the pump and connections.
- Check tyre age, steering-head bearings and every light and switch; storage can affect these items more than the odometer suggests.
