About the Benelli 491
The Benelli 491 is an Italian 50 cc scooter family from Benelli's Merloni era. It was introduced in early 1997 and production ended in March 2003. The name does not denote a naked bike, but a sporty two-stroke scooter with either a Minarelli or Morini engine and air or liquid cooling depending on version and year.
There are many 491 names: GT Aria, Sport, Racing, SBK, ST, RR and several Replica versions. An advert title alone is therefore not enough for ordering parts. Always check the type plate, VIN, cooling system and exact trim. The rows below group the evidenced technical families without treating paint schemes as separate models.

What to check before buying
- Check the type plate, VIN and engine number before ordering parts; 491 versions differ in engine maker and cooling.
- On an LC version, inspect radiator, water pump, hoses and coolant for leaks, and confirm that the fan operates.
- On an air-cooled version, check the cooling shroud, cylinder cooling and every plastic air guide.
- Check two-stroke fuel supply, oil injection or correct premix, and inspect around the carburettor and oil pump for leaks.
- Test variator, drive belt, clutch, electric start and lights; replacement parts must match the precise 491 version.
