About the Benelli 125 Sport
The Benelli 125 Sport in this catalogue denotes the Sport Special family built by Benelli and MotoBi from 1968 to 1973. It is an air-cooled 123.6cc four-stroke single with the distinctive horizontal ‘egg’ engine, five-speed gearbox and light classic chassis. It is unrelated to much later two-stroke 125s such as Jarno or 2C.
Sport Special is an elegant Italian light classic for relaxed riding and collectors. Modest output does not invite aggressive use, but originality of tank, half fairing, wheels and exhaust matters. The engine is comparatively simple provided oil supply, valves and the condition of aged ignition are maintained consistently.

What to check before buying
- Confirm it is a Sport Special with horizontal four-stroke single; do not confuse it with later Benelli 125s.
- Check oil level, valve clearances, oil leaks and cold starting on the older four-stroke engine.
- Inspect carburettor, fuel tap and tank for contamination or corrosion after long storage.
- Test ignition, generator and lighting; original electrical parts may be aged.
- Compare half fairing, exhaust, tank and wheels with period material because MotoBi/Benelli badges and parts were often interchanged.
