1990–1993 · Amico 50

About the Aprilia Amico 50
The Aprilia Amico 50 is the simple 49 cc two-stroke scooter through which Aprilia expanded its scooter range in 1990. The family remained in production through the 1990s and gained mainly equipment, styling and emissions variants such as LK, LX, GL/GLE, Sport, Business and FD. Its basic formula remained an air-cooled carburetted single with automatic belt drive, intended for short urban journeys and moped use.
For a purchase, do not infer the exact version from the Amico 50 name alone. The early 1990–1993 base model and later GL differ in bodywork and braking equipment, while restricted and catalysed market versions can also carry different registrations. Select the generation using year, type plate and registration. On any old scooter, inspect the CVT, fuel and oil-injection systems, brakes and wiring, and do not compare claimed performance with a modified example.

What to check before buying
- Inspect the drive belt, rollers, clutch and variator for wear, flat-spotted rollers and non-original setup; these determine take-off and legal speed.
- Check the tank, carburettor, vacuum tap and oil-injection system for stale fuel, leaks and hardened hoses before loading the air-cooled two-stroke.
- Test front and rear brakes separately and inspect lines, discs/drums and tyres; early and GL versions do not use identical braking equipment.
- Check earth connections, charging voltage, lighting and starter motor for corrosion and voltage loss, especially on scooters that have stood unused.
